Before you begin, you will need a pencil, a metal measuring tape, and something to write on.
1. Measure all of your windows, regardless of whether or not they look the same size.
2. Record your measurements in inches, not feet.
3. The first number you record should be the width, followed by the length.
4. Round all measurements to the nearest 1/8" (one-eighth of an inch).
5. Measure for width in three different places: at the top, the middle, and the bottom of the window. For an inside mount, use the shortest width. For an outside mount, consider how far you'd like the treatment to extend beyond the window frame on each side.
6. If your widths (top, middle, and bottom) are substantially different, consider an outside mounted window treatment to conceal the imperfection.
7. A window that is 35 inches wide typically needs just two 48-inch wide panels.
Now that you are ready to begin, consult the diagram below:
Distance 'A' - Top of window frame to top of window sill (or bottom of frame if there is no sill)
Distance 'B' - Top of window frame to floor
Distance 'C' - Width of rod
Distance 'D' - Window width (outside of frame to outside of frame)
NOTE: It is helpful to also measure the distance from the rod to the floor
