What is thread count?
Thread count is defined as the number of horizontal and vertical threads in one square inch of fabric. Thread count does not necessarily indicate the quality of a particular sheet or pillowcase.
The linen's fiber content is more a measure of quality. Cotton such as Supima® Cotton and Egyptian Cotton are typically better quality than ordinary cotton due to the fibers.
For added durability and comfort, look for thread counts over 250 which are made from more luxurious cottons.
